Project Update: Supporting Diabetic Patients in Sri Lanka – #71030
Reporting Month: November 2025
Project Title: Supporting Diabetic Patients in Sri Lanka
1. Introduction
In November 2025, Save a Life continued its commitment to improving access to diabetes care for communities across Sri Lanka. While this project supports all diabetic patients in need, this month we prioritized a differently abled beneficiary group in the Jaffna District. Recognizing the additional barriers differently abled individuals face in accessing regular medical screening, we partnered with the Social Care Division of the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat to ensure inclusive and equitable health support.
2. Key Activity Donation of Diabetes Glucose Meters
On 20 November 2025, Save a Life donated two diabetes glucose meters to the Social Care Division of the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat. These devices were specifically allocated to support diabetes screening during the upcoming Differently Abled People’s Day event.
Donation Details:
Number of Devices Donated: 2
Total Cost: LKR 6,900
Value: USD 20
Although the project’s primary goal is to support diabetic patients nationwide, this month’s activity focused on differently abled individuals, who often experience increased difficulty accessing diagnostic tools, travel, and continuous monitoring. This targeted support ensures that the project remains inclusive while addressing urgent needs in the community.
3. Challenges Faced Barriers Faced by Differently Abled Individuals
Many differently abled persons struggle to access consistent healthcare due to mobility limitations, transportation challenges, and lack of home-based monitoring equipment. These factors can delay early diagnosis and effective diabetes management.
Need for Wider Community Coverage
While our support this month focused on a specific beneficiary group, the overall demand for diabetic screening tools remains high across Sri Lanka. Sustaining broad support requires continued donor engagement and resource allocation.
4. Impact on the Community Strengthening Inclusive Health Access
The donated glucose meters enhance the Secretariat’s capacity to conduct screenings not only during the Differently Abled People’s Day event, but also in future activities. This ensures differently abled individuals receive equal access to early detection and diabetes management.
Supporting the Project’s Wider Mission
While this month prioritized a differently abled beneficiary group, the activity contributes to the broader project goal of improving diabetes care for all patients in Sri Lanka. Targeted support ensures no vulnerable group is left behind.
5. Plans for Next Month
Identify additional diabetic patients—including elderly, low-income, and differently abled individuals—who require monitoring support.
Continue expanding screening capacity across multiple divisions.
Plan awareness sessions on diabetes prevention and management for the general public.
Explore possibilities to provide more glucose meters and related equipment for underserved groups.
6. Thank You
