Summary

Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel in the early hours of October 7, 2023. As of October 15, over 1,300 people have been reported killed and 3,200 injured in Israel. Missile strikes are ongoing, and there is an urgent need for mental health and psychosocial support for displaced communities. Using our global and home-grown expertise, IsraAID is working with local partners to provide much-needed relief to children and families affected by conflict and crisis in southern Israel.

Challenge

There is an urgent need for psychosocial support and relief supplies for the most vulnerable populations in Israel. Thousands of families from southern communities have been forced to leave their homes indefinitely with few personal possessions. While they are temporarily housed in Evacuation Centers around the country, missiles continue to strike homes and hospitals. Schools are largely closed, leaving children without familiar frameworks and parents with little respite.

Solution

IsraAID deployed within 48 hours to provide an immediate, urgent response. Our experts are already working in six locations and assessing needs in several more. We are leveraging global and home-grown expertise to provide support to evacuated children and families, including establishing Child-Friendly Spaces; equipping parents with tools to support their children's well-being; and ensuring mental health and psychosocial support provision for professionals working directly with those affected.

Long-Term Impact

Providing mental health and psychosocial support to the most vulnerable communities is crucial for fostering resilience and preventing long-term psychological trauma. We know the recovery process will be long and challenging, and as with every crisis response, we are committed to accompanying affected communities for as long as we're needed.
