Dear friend,

We are back with another case study of Samjhana Shahi ( name changed) , a 17-year-old pregnant woman from Natharpu, Soru Rural Municipality in Mugu District, experienced complications during her first pregnancy. Samjhana had been following the government’s recommended prenatal care, including regular check-ups and treatment. Her previous check-ups had indicated normal health for both mother and baby.

But Samjhana began experiencing severe abdominal pain, which she initially thought was not related to delivery. However, as the pain worsened, she contacted her mother and eventually sought help from PHASE Nepal. Upon examination, it was diagnosed that her cervix had opened, and she was experiencing bleeding, indicating a breach delivery.

Then Samjhana was transferred to a health institution. Upon further examination, it was discovered that the baby’s position had changed, and the cervix was opening. Despite a drop in her blood pressure and increased bleeding, PHASE Nepal staff provided urgent care, including intravenous fluids, pain management, and close monitoring of her vitals. The baby was born through a normal delivery with breach presentation, weighing 2200 grams. Immediate care was provided for the baby, including suctioning to clear fluids and administering vitamin K. The baby was placed in Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) and was monitored for jaundice and weight gain.

After seven days, the baby’s weight increased to 2300 grams and reached 2500 grams by 26th Asoj. Both mother and baby were healthy, and PHASE Nepal continued to provide advice on breastfeeding, hygiene, and postnatal care.

Samjhana shared, "I am very grateful for the timely support I received from PHASE Nepal. Without their help, I might have faced more complications. Today, I am recovering well, and my baby is healthy and growing strong."

We sincerely thank our generous donors for their support, which enabled us to provide essential care and assistance to Samjhana and her baby. Your contributions make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in need, and we are deeply grateful for your continued partnership in creating positive change.
