Psychosocial and Mental health support training

Health Workers and School Teachers in the West Nepal trained on Psychosocial and Mental Health Support

We organized a four-day training on psychosocial and mental health support for 30 government health workers who are providing primary health care services to people living in remote communities of Kushe and Barekot Rural Municipalities in Jajarkot District, Karnali Province. The training was conducted from 11 to 14 December 2025 in Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jajarkot.

The main aim of the training was to equip the health workers with essential knowledge and skills for the early detection of psychosocial and mental health challenges, provision of basic counseling support, and timely referral to higher-level health facilities for appropriate and timely treatment.

A shorter version of the same training was also provided to 30 school teachers of government schools from the two rural municipalities from 16 and 17 December 2025 to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting community members and students who require psychosocial support. At the end of the training, we asked all the participants to prepare an action plan for the application of the knowledge and skill gained from the training. We will continue to support and follow up the participants in organizing community awareness sessions to keep learnings alive.

We highly appreciate the support we received from ASIA and other partners in organizing these events, which has been instrumental in extending psychosocial and mental health services to communities living in remote areas. This support will enable timely basic counseling for people in need and help prevent the development of severe mental health problems in rural communities where more than 40,000 people reside. We remain committed to our mission and will continue our efforts to improve health outcomes in remote areas by making the best use of the support we receive.

Thank you
