Bishop Patrick McKinney's Letter to donors

By Claudia Domin | Community and Events Fundraiser

We truly appreciate your support, as every contribution to this campaign will assist vulnerable patients across sub-Saharan Africa who are receiving long-term care. Many of these individuals, some of whom we have personally met, are currently being cared for at our partner health units. They may be fighting cancer, dealing with severe disabilities, or suffering from illnesses that leave them bedridden.

Moreover, numerous patients' families experience financial difficulties and are unable to provide support for their loved ones in the hospital, which is where Inter Care plays a crucial role. Thanks to Inter Care's donations of medical supplies, patients in long-term care can receive treatment at no cost.

Derick, a 22-year-old patient in Tanzania, has been bedridden for a decade due to paralysis from the waist down, leading to severe pressure sores and septicaemia. Derick is receiving care at Kibosho Hospital high up in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Through Inter Care’s donations of medical aid, he has received daily wound care, antibiotics, and nutritional support. Within a few weeks of receiving treatment, hee expressed gratitude for his healing progress. Inter Care's support has been vital, as his family struggles to afford treatment. A donation of £45 can fund a 30-day pressure sore treatment, helping alleviate his pain.

Bishop Patrick McKinney, our Patron, has written a letter to all Parishes in our Diocese emphasising the importance of supporting this campaign. At the conclusion of his letter, he says, “I have seen for myself that the targeted and effective work of lnterCare transforms the lives of so many of the poorest and most vulnerable children and adults in Sub-Saharan Africa. For example, I visited Kibosho Hospital, which is featured in the lnterCare Advent Newsletter, and I saw for myself the basic conditions mentioned. I also saw the difference that the crucial medical resources provided by lnterCare made to the orphans. Please help lnter Care to continue their excellent work by supporting financially their Advent Appeal: to raise £50,000 for their funds in celebration of their 50th Anniversary”.
