Following the last report we have made; your donations were able to support us in sending £123,063.84 worth of medicines to Malawi. The supply enabled us to support 4 Hospitals, and it consisted in excess of 18,000 individual patient treatments.
Some examples of the medicines we were able to send were Ferrous Sulphate, Cetirizine, Centrum for kids that we were fortunate enough to get them donated.
One of the beneficiaries from the health units were Ekwendeni Hospital. There they were able to support a 24-year-old female who was pregnant with her second child. She was prescribed ferrous sulphate, folic acid and pyrimethamine which was given to her free of charge from Inter Care’s donation. She previously had recurrent anaemias which required blood transfusions in her previous pregnancy. She attributed this to the inconsistent availability of drugs like ferrous sulphate during antenatal visits in her first pregnancy. This made her not take the drugs as required because she could not afford buying them in local pharmacies. She had delivered a growth restricted baby in her first pregnancy, fortunately the baby survived. The nurse giving the services in the antenatal care also was happy that now the drugs were available and in return the number of deformed babies will decrease.
The nurse said” I am really happy with the donation of drugs from Inter Care. Because drugs like ferrous sulphate form a major component of the drugs we give to our antenatal mothers. Unfortunately, we usually run out of the drugs quickly because we receive in little quantity from the government. The availability of the drugs will give antenatal mothers hope for the health of their babies. For us health workers, we will be satisfied that we are providing standard health care.”
Your continued support has enabled us to aid many people in need and reduce the risk of growth restricted/ deformed babies.
