My Community health watch group, is a support group in communities whose work is to train, Empower and post front line workers in remote communities to identify and support pregnant women, and nursing mothers in ensuring that every child from zero to two years are identified and fully immunized. It has been tested in four Communities and we are at the development age where we need to empower more front line workers to reach out to 750 families and their new born. To ensure more children benefits
The Community is presently cut off from the city roads and have no access to good road, primary health Center and suffers from maternal and neonatal deaths due to long distance and difficulties in getting to the nearest health center which is more than six kilometers away. The community do not have transportation and the population of the community is rising by day at an estimate of over 1500 families with up to 2000 children. Over 60% of the children have non or incomplete immunisation records.
The project will have an interaction and interface with the Community and will facilitate the movements of pregnant and nursing mothers by rendering supports and ensuring arrangement's are made to transport them to nearest Primary Health Center or bring an Immunization team regularly to immunise them. My Community Health Watch Group will also engage some of the slum dwellers as volunteers, to enable them feed us weekly updates of families with pregnant women and new born babes by text messages
On the long run, the community will have all their children immunized and proper records kept. The pregnant women will receive adequate medical care and be supported with a Primary Health Center. This will be made possible by our advocacy, interventions and collaboration with our Local Government System where the Primary Health Care is anchored. Our partnership, support to the community will totally reduce the cases of deaths and and will totally eradicate Polio meningitis and other disease.
