Kardias enables access to high quality treatment for mexican children with congenital heart defects. We fundraise so that every Mexican child who needs it gets the best surgical treatment and attention. We do this by supporting a group of outstanding dedicated doctors in a innovative hybrid model combining work in the public sector and the private sector which allows us to enlarge the volume of children we assist and to improve the quality of every surgery.
One in every 120 children are born with congenital heart disease, being this the second leading cause of infant mortality under 4 years old. In Mexico every year 19,000 children have this ailment but only 6,000 receive treatment and in many of these cases not of the best quality. Mexico at the moment only has the capacity to treat 1/3 of these children resulting in the death of many children who could have been treated and live a healthy and normal life.yea
Kardias provides heart surgeries for more than 200 children every year with a survival rate of 95%. Our goal is to increase the number of surgeries performed each year. Kardias is opening after 18 years with excellent results the first Children's Heart Specialty center in Mexico: The Kardias-ABC An innovative hybrid model combining the efforts of the public sector and the private sector offering more children the possibility and access to the heart surgery they need.
This new model will assist in the treatment of congenital heart disease with high standards of international level and to reduce the waiting list of public hospitals this giving timely attention to children in vulnerable populations. Children born with heart malfunctions when treated on time live healthy and normal lives; when not treated on time develop a series of physiological damages, lung damage, learning disabilities, a lag in brain development and emotional distress.
