“Your baby has a heart murmur”.
No parent is prepared for those words. Ana Sofia was only two months old and she seemed normal . The parents were heartbroken. On the doctor’s advice they took the baby to a public hospital in Orizaba, Veracruz. There a pediatric cardiologist confirmed the baby’s heart condition and informed them that their little girl needed specialized treatment that was only available in large medical centers.
The pediatric cardiologist recommended that they contact Kardias, a pediatric heart center at the American British Cowdrry Hospital in Mexico City.
The young couple took six month old Ana Sofia to the ABC-Kardias Pediatric Heart Center in Mexico City. The baby could be saved but only by surgery. Open heart surgery is extremely expensive. The couple was overcome by the cost. They had a limited insurance policy which would not begin to cover the expense of the heart surgery. They were willing to sacrifice everything they had to save Ana Sofia’s life but it was insufficient. Fortunately this story has a happy ending. Kardias reviewed the case and the parents’s finances and decided that she was eligible for financial assistance from Kardias.
The operation was successful ! Little Ana Sofia is developing normally! She has a future!
Donations to Kardias go to saving lives!
