The project will provide food, basic survival items such as soap, water Jerricans, mosquito nets, blankets, sleeping mats and in case of adolescent girls and women, sanitary pads and other menstrual hygiene management materials. The assistance will be delivered to 3500 vulnerable returnees (2250 females) fleeing conflict from Sudan and entering into South Sudan to seek safety and protection. The assistance will save lives, uphold rights and restore dignity of the returnees .
The war in Sudan has displaced 7M people in Sudan (5.5M internally and 1.38M in neighboring countries). As at December 2023, 454,956 people had fled to South Sudan to seek safety and protection. Akobo County in Jonglei State is hosting 17,707; Malakal and Renk Counties in Upper Nile State have 10122 and 24000 returnees respectively. The returnees lack food, water, items such as soap, water Jerricans and in case of women and girls, menstrual management materials.
NILECAPD will provide assistance in close coordination with local authorities in form of food and non-food items, covering at least 3500 refugees and returnees, of whom 2250 will be women and girls to enable them live normal lives. The in-kind assistance will include food items such as cereals, pulses cooking oil and salt. Water, water Jerricans, mosquito nets, mosquito nets, menstrual hygiene kits and blankets will also be provided to returnees and refugees.
If we provide this assistance, we will enable the refugees and returnees to meet immediate basic needs they face. This will allow them to proceed to transition centres such as Internally Displaced sites or protection of civilian centres where they will access long term assistance from the Government and Humanitarian partners.
