For more than 15 years, 3 Generations has been dedicated to documenting the harrowing stories of genocide survivors, preserving crucial historical evidence, and ensuring that the world never forgets these unspeakable atrocities. We were founded to document and raise awareness of the genocide in Darfur: the first genocide of the 21st century. In 2005, we visited Sudan and Chad to collect testimonies. This evolved into the award-winning feature documentary, The Devil Came on Horseback. Since then, our agenda has expanded to include the stories of survivors of genocides in Armenia, Cambodia, Rwanda, the Holocaust, Tibet, and more recently Myanmar and Iraq.
As we approach our last quarter in 2024, 3G moves forward with a more precise focus on two issues that have been the heart of our organization for many years: genocide and women’s issues. With a keen eye on these two issues, we will continue to advocate for survivors of genocide and those with no access to proper reproductive health care. As the upcoming U.S. presidential election looms, we join you all in showing resilience.
3 Generations continues to keep memories of those who suffered through genocide alive with current works of film. HERE LIVED, our latest feature film, is the story of hidden children, murdered parents, generational trauma, and one artist’s singular vision for healing. Centered in this documentary is artist Gunter Denmig, and the largest decentralized memorial he created for victims of the Holocaust, named Stolpersteine (literal translation: stumbling stones). This memorial represents a deeply personal commemoration to those affected.
