Since our last update, we have been shaken by undeniable cases of racism, violent discrimination, and genocide. On the 12th of August, nearly two months ago, a “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville awoke the country to the real and present danger of modern hatred. White Supremacists marched the Friday night before in mass carrying torches, and chanting “Jews will not replace us,” among other daunting declarations. By Saturday afternoon, the armed neo-Nazis broke out in violent opposition to counter protesters, beating people up with metal pipes and wooden poles. The day reached its climax when a man rammed a car through the crowd, murdering 32 year old Heather Heyer.
In light of this newly infamous day in American history, 3 Generations made an earnest plea for communities to remember the aftermath of Nazism in Germany. When our CEO and founder Jane Wells attained the rights to German Concentration Camps Factual Survey, a film made by her father and commissioned by the British government to document the liberation of the concentration camps, we began distributing it for educational screenings across the country. Charlottesville inspired us to promote the film stronger than ever, and we just sent the film out to the University of Iowa for students there to visually take in the horrors of the Holocaust.
Modern atrocities and injustices are not unique to America. We have been closely monitoring the human rights catastrophe in Myanmar as genocide continues against the Rohingya population, with their villages being burned to ashes. It is imperative that we use the historical footage at our fingertips to remind the world how simple feelings of hate can manifest into mass production of evil.
