A Greenhouse Fits on the Land

This is the goal

This week, this very week, is an important week for the project in Mombasa. This is the week when a greenhouse will be installed in Portriez, the smaller garden site. In it, tomatoes and peppers and melons will be grown - all items that are usually imported because they are so difficult to grow in Mombasa's hot and humid weather.

Why is this so exciting? Simple:

Children in the program will have veggies to complement their diets
The program will start moving, slowly but surely, towards the path of self-sustainability by producing their own food
Food which is typically very difficult to grow in Mombasa will grow well in the greenhouse, as our photos show
Maize and hardier veggies will grow right outside the greenhouse, using the same drip irrigation system, providing even more food for the kids
Seeds will be saved for other gardens or for the next year's planting season
