At Restoring Hopes Ministry (RHM), in Miwani Kenya, we believe that sustainable food security begins with growing food to meet the needs of our community . Through our rice farming project, we are addressing hunger, supporting vulnerable children and elderly women, and creating employment opportunities for local women.
For the children in our care, food is essential to their growth, health, and education. RHM supports children affected or infected by HIV/AIDS through our children's home and education programmes, including Restoring Hopes Academy. By growing our own rice, we can provide food for the children in our home and school while reducing our dependence on purchased food.
Our harvest also benefits the praying grannies—elderly women in our community. Sharing rice with them is one way we extend our care to
vulnerable members of the community, helping them meet their basic needs with dignity. Beyond providing food, our rice project creates employment opportunities for women. From preparing the fields and planting to weeding and harvesting, women contribute significantly to the success of the project and earn income to help support their families. In this way, rice farming strengthens both household livelihoods and community food security.
At RHM, we see agriculture as a practical, long-term approach to addressing hunger. By growing food ourselves, we are building our capacity to care for the people who depend on us. We are grateful to be able to continue this project year after year, knowing that every harvest helps us meet the needs of our children and community.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA) for standing with us on this journey. Their
support and partnership have encouraged us to continue working towards sustainable food security and improving the lives of vulnerable children and families. We deeply appreciate being able to carry this work forward each year and the difference it makes in our community.
Every harvest carries hope. The rice we grow becomes meals for children, support for elderly women, and income for women working in our fields. What begins as a seed in the ground becomes an opportunity to nourish lives, strengthen families, and build a more resilient community. Through our rice farming project, we are growing more than food—we are cultivating hope for a better future.
