This project involves tree planting and farm land conservation. Aiming at strengthening existing community based natural resource management committees in Blantyre District. The project will contribute to Disaster Risk reduction through environment management. The project has four key components; community mobilisation for increased participation, Tree planting, firewood saving stoves, and monitoring, coordination and supervision.
Even though some remarkable achievements have been registered, there is still more work to be done in order to contribute in reversing the current Malawi's environment indicators which are among the worst in the World. Mobilise community support in order to increase community participation in management and rehabilitation of natural environment. Tree planting will include forest conservation, river bank rehabilitation and agro forestry as a measure for controlling fertility and flooding. Facilitate and promote construction and use of firewood saving stoves with aim reducing the amount of trees and other resources for firewood and charcoal. Strengthen existing network and collaboration with government.
80 farmers will b3 trained in soil and water conservation 80 farmers will be trained on the job in sustainable conservational agriculture Agro forestry technologies will be increasingly practiced by targeted farmers 40 nursery trees will be established 400 000 seedlings will be planted 10 tons of vertiva grass cuttings will be distributed to 300 farmers 32 new village forests and 320 family woodlots will be established 1.5 kilometres stretch by 5 metres wide will bewill be covered.
