The Integral Heart School promotes a sustainable response to climate change. Our solar program is lighting four non-profit schools, saving fossil fuels and cutting power bills by half. Our solar program also places small home-based units with our families. We are growing herbs for our food program at our school in recycled cardboard tubing. We have a spaying and neutering program that, in cooperation with a veterinary group, is reducing the street animal footprint by over 5000 annually.
The planet is very much at risk of becoming uninhabitable because of the effects of climate change. With species extinction, rising temperatures, super-storms and devastating fires we must respond in a wholly sustainable way now. There must be increased awareness starting with our children to so that behaviors and patterns of consumption can be changed early. Awareness must also be brought to the fact that solar panel generate free electricity - the initial investment returned x 5.
1) Raising awareness through education starting with children and teenagers so they take that learning and apply it in their lives. 2) Showing results by involving our children and community in the planting of seeds for food in readily available cardboard tubing - Not Trash - Food! 3) Providing education and donations of large and small solar units. 4) Neutering and spaying programs will eradicate the impact of thousands of strays on the local environments.
The project designed to impact the lives 2,500 Guatemalans and their communities, ensuring that they have long-term access to home-grown food and solar light. This will improve their livelihoods and health and also will reduce their dependence on fossil fuels. Over the term of this project we will also save uncountable stray dogs and cats from short lives of great misery with our spaying and neutering program - all of which will transform our ecosystem and make a better world for all of of us.
