MCCF Spring 2024 Update: Progress and Promise

As we embrace the full bloom of spring, we are delighted to provide our dedicated donors with an update on MCCF's recent activities since our last progress report in January. Our primary focus has been on fulfilling mandatory requirements for government inspection by installing two approved toilets at the orphanage. Previously, our Turkish-style toilets, common in rural Uganda, failed to meet regulations, prompting the construction of a new facility in compliance with official guidelines. Another essential task awaiting completion is the cementing of the interior walls of the MCCF dormitories. Fortunately, our previous work on the exterior walls protected us from extensive damage caused by heavy rains in February and March.

Following the successful fundraiser for Asina, we facilitated her consultations with specialists in Kampala and Mbale. Despite exhaustive examinations, including MRI scans, surgery is deemed impractical due to extensive eye damage and calcifications. Consequently, we are exploring the possibility of enrolling Asina in a blind boarding school, utilizing remaining funds to support her education and future prospects.

Thanks to the recent Little by Little campaign, we have secured funds that, upon receipt from GlobalGiving in May, will enable MCCF to invest in agricultural initiatives for self-sustainability. Currently supported by six faithful monthly donors, our existing funds cover essential expenses, underscoring the importance of additional support for future projects and sustainability efforts.

Looking ahead, we anticipate sharing positive outcomes from our agricultural endeavors and progress towards achieving full compliance with government regulations. Additionally, we will update you on Asina's enrollment in the blind boarding school and our efforts to obtain essential documents, such as her birth certificate. Furthermore, new younger children, including our albino child Sharon, were enrolled in school for the new term in January. Recognizing the importance of education in shaping their futures, we are committed to providing every child in our care with access to quality schooling.

In another initiative, we enrolled Tony to join the local Rotary Club, aiming to establish connections that may lead to support and grants from other Rotary Clubs internationally. We believe collaboration and networking are key to achieving our long-term goals of sustainability and growth.

Our vision extends beyond immediate needs; we remain steadfast in our aspiration to one day purchase land and construct a sturdy brick orphanage and sustainable village. This dream represents our commitment to providing a permanent and secure home for the children under our care, ensuring their well-being for generations to come.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our donors for their unwavering support and belief in MCCF's mission to uplift the orphan children of rural Mbale.
