By Victoria Spencer Geurts | President and Founder Save Children of Mbale
Dear Donors,
Warm greetings from Save Children of Mbale and Mbale Child Care Foundation (MCCF).
Over the past three months, MCCF and Save Children of Mbale have focused nearly all available resources on the urgent construction of our new orphanage. We are required to vacate our current land, and the new facility must be completed before July.
Construction Update
We are grateful to share that the building has now reached roof level, as shown in recent photos. This is a significant milestone. However, we still urgently need support to complete:
Roofing
Interior finishing
Plumbing and electricity
furnishings, and basic supplies
Difficult but Necessary Decisions
With only five regular monthly donors, our funds currently cover food and basic necessities only. To save toward construction, we made the painful decision to temporarily suspend public school education for 30 children. The children are now home-schooling as best as possible until stability is restored. Medical needs are also increasingly difficult to manage.
Children with Special Needs
Our blind child, Asina, remains unable to return to boarding school due to the loss of her sponsor. In addition, she suffers from a chronic skin condition that requires ongoing medical treatment. Asina is in need of both medical support and a new donor to continue her education and care.
Additional Challenges
Our staff member Tony urgently needs a phone with a camera to provide timely updates and documentation, but this has not yet been possible due to construction priorities.
How You Can Help
Your support at this critical time can help us:
Complete the orphanage before July
Resume education for all children
Provide medical care, especially for Asina
Restore stability and safety for vulnerable children
Every contribution brings us closer to a permanent home and a better future.
With sincere gratitude,
Victoria
