On April 2, 2012, the staff of the Afghan Institute of Learning’s Peshawar Office traveled to Katcha Gari to provide dry milk to 58 Afghan Refugee families that were victims of the flood. They report that these families are still facing many difficulties with inadequate housing, food, clothing, etc. They describe the area like this:
“The poor and needy people who lost everything, even members of their family, live in these houses. Some of them have no doors and no windows. Some don’t even have a wall. They have no floor cover or a place to sleep. The houses look like ruins. The 58 families that we were able to serve include men, women and children with lots of difficulties, sadness and sickness.”
The staff also reported that when they attempted to take pictures of the area, the residents objected to it. Out of respect for these desperate families, they put the camera away.
