Summary

The conflict in Syria has led to the killing or displacement of more than half of the country's population. It is the largest human displacement since WWII and Syrians easily represent the largest refugee group in the world today. CARE reaches Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Yemen, and those displaced inside Syria with food, hygiene items, and emergency cash assistance. Challenge

Intense fighting in Syria has forcibly displaced more people today than any other country. Every day, thousands of Syrians flee violence to seek out food, protection, medical care and other urgently needed aid. There are 13.5 million people inside Syria displaced or in desperate need of humanitarian aid. At least half of the displaced are children. The majority of the nearly 5 million refugees are struggling to meet the most basic needs, having left everything behind.

Solution

Through our partners, CARE is providing lifesaving emergency assistance to people affected by the conflict in Syria, reaching 182,000 to date. We have provided food, baby items, hygiene kits and winterization kits and other emergency supplies to families; psychological and social support to children; and equipment, medicine and support for hospital obstetric care. CARE is also providing food assistance through the distribution of food baskets and carrying out water sanitation activities.

Long-Term Impact

CARE raises awareness about sexual exploitation and other forms of gender-based violence to protect refugees from any and all forms of abuse. Through our psychosocial programs, we are assisting Syrian refugee women, men and children in coping with their experiences of war, violence, flight and the loss of family and friends.
