Started to practice cooking by herself - The story about Chi in fifth grade

After Chi's father passed away due to illness, her mother shouldered the financial burden alone and had little time to accompany and care for Chi. Chi also did not get along well with her classmates and had interpersonal problems. The two of them were under different pressures. Under pressure and being unaccustomed to speaking out their concerns, incomprehension and conflicts began to arise.

The school assisted Chi in applying for financial subsidies from Child Welfare League Foundation(CWLF), hoping to reduce her mother’s financial burden.Besides, social workers had the opportunity to go to the school to interact with Chi.At the first meeting, Chi just stared ahead and said, "It doesn't matter!" and "I don't care, I don't know!" There was an unknown feeling hidden behind these words.Because they are not familiar with each other, there is a distance between Chi and the social worker like a wall. However, the social worker learned that Chi likes to play basketball, but there is no one to accompany her to exercise, and her mother is busy with work, so after school, Chi often stays at home alone.

The second time the social worker visited her home during the summer vacation and invited Chi to play basketball and run outdoors. The social worker and Chi looked at each other's physical exhaustion and laughed out of breath. The social worker saw Chi's smile under the sunshine, different from their first meeting.During the following home visiting, Chi enthusiastically invited the social worker to prepare her mother's home-style dishes together. The ingredients from CWLF summer nutrient boxes let Chi to prepare lunch by herself, so that her mother did not have to worry about meals preparation during working.

Although both the social worker and Chi were not good at cooking, and were busy in the process, they also brought them closer together. Chi began to be willing to talk about her relationship with her classmates and her mother. The social worker accompanied Chi to discuss, Chi started to see her own strengths and be more positive about herself, because all the way about growing was not easy!

Through cooperation with school teachers, and the efforts of Chi and her mother, they saw each other's kindness. Chi said: "I like my mother!". And has also begun to look forward to future life, and will happily share her daily and imaginary life at school with the social worker."I think I will get better and better." Chi said. The social worker thought that the nutrient boxes gathered everyone's love, and meet child's need. Not only the child's meal, but also the child's soul!
