A devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan and the surrounding region has claimed at least 10 lives, trapped hundreds of people in rubble, and caused more than 1,000 injuries. The earthquake is the worst to strike Taiwan in at least 25 years, and rescue efforts are still underway for dozens of individuals as impacts continue to unfold.
As aftershocks, tsunamis, and evacuations in Taiwan continue to impact communities affected, officials warn deaths and injuries could rise in the coming days. Search and rescue remains ongoing, and displacement due to damage to infrastructure and nearly 100,000 affected homes are likely to affect communities in Taiwan for years to come.
All donations to this fund will support relief and recovery efforts in Taiwan and surrounding communities. These efforts will be led by GlobalGiving's network of vetted partners in the region. Initially, the fund will help meet survivors' needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, medicines and medical supplies, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery and resiliency efforts led by local, vetted organizations.
