We hope that all of you are staying safe and well during this time of the global pandemic. As we write, Viet Nam's government has successfully contained the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, and no new cases have been detected in the community in over 25 days. With easing social distancing restrictions, our fight against TB continues!
We are so grateful to all our generous donors who have continued to support FIT on our mission to eliminate TB in island populations. Even with the world facing tremendous challenges, we have received a total of 31 donations and raised over $3,300 to support our screening campaign on Tam Hai Island. In 2020, we submitted an application to the provincial government and received approval to begin screening activities on Tam Hai.
We are very excited to announce that the Tam Hai screening events will happen in early June!
From our past island elimination campaigns, we know that our activities can make a big difference. In January 2019, we screened Cu Lao Cham island and followed up with five days of TB rescreening in December to see the impact of our screening on the island. We found that there was a significant reduction in TB detection yields, from 14.9% to 2.8%! These tangible results motivate us even more to continue TB screening on other islands.
For the last time, we request your support for this important work on Tam Hai Island. Please continue to share our GlobalGiving campaign link with family and friends, and thank you for your unyielding support.
Stay safe and take care,
FIT

To our dedicated donors,
Welcome to the new year and a new decade! The team at FIT extends our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to our campaign to support TB elimination on Tam Hai Island, Viet Nam. In 2019, we received a total of 23 donations which will go directly towards providing TB prevention and treatment to communities on Tam Hai Island! We hope to begin 2020 with even more dedication and enthusiasm.
We are excited to announce that since our last report, we successfully submitted an application to an ethical review board which will approve our work on Tam Hai. In other island-related news, in December we also rescreened the island of Cu Lao Cham, which was screened in January 2019. If you would like to watch the video of our first campaign, please click here.
We can't wait to begin screening on Tam Hai, but we still need your help! A donation of just $10 pays for a TB screening that could change someone's life, and through your generosity, we could change the lives of everyone on the island. Every single donation is greatly appreciated. With your help, we can launch this project and provide these islanders access to the comprehensive care that they need.
Thank you again for your support! We couldn't do this without you.
With gratitude,
FIT

Thank you to our donors!

We would like to thank you for your generous donations! In the last months, we have received 19 donations, which will help us launch our mobile chest x-ray tuberculosis screening on Tam Hai Island, Vietnam. These islanders face significant challenges when attempting to access health care services on the mainland, and our mobile campaign aims to increase awareness while also bringing necessary care right to their communities.
FIT has been successful in our TB interventions in island settings, such as on Cu Lao Cham Island. In January 2019, we brought a mobile chest x-ray truck to the island to search and test for latent and active TB and screened over 1700 people. 10 people were diagnosed and began treatment, and an additional 400 people were initiated on preventative treatment. This December, we will be returning to measure and see if we have truly eliminated TB on the island.
With your help, we plan to provide the same comprehensive care and change lives on Tam Hai Island in 2020. We are continuing to push to make this goal a reality, so please share our GlobalGiving campaign link with anyone who
would be interested in getting involved.
Thank you so much for contributing to our efforts to eliminate TB together!
With much gratitude,
FIT
