This proposal will fund the educators and equipment needed to teach basic computer skills to 24 students for a year. Six new computers will be purchased for the computer room. Education will consist of 2 hours/day twice/week for each student on a shared computer. This is the only exposure these children have to computers, class will include basic computer skills, internet knowledge, software packages e.g. Office. This project will transform their worlds and open up career possibilities.
The children at the Tahuantinsuyo Center have no access to computers. The computer lab currently only has 1 functional computer but it is too old to support a modern operating system or Office applications. To live in our modern world the children and young adults need to be taught basic computer skills (digital literacy) and they need the computers, infrastructure, and education to do so.
This project will fund; 6 new computers at The TAHUANTINSUYO COMMUNITY CENTER, an educator, and will pay for utilities including Internet costs. Students will get 2 hours twice a week hands on experience as well as be able to book other time.
Introducing computers introduces them to a world outside of their neighbourhood in one of the poorest areas of El Alto. A working computer lab with knowledge about them will inspire everyone at the Center, increase the probability of higher education, better employment, and perhaps even the inspiration to become a community leader.
