Teach For Taiwan COVID-19 Response Report

By YI LIN CHEN | Senior External Relations Associate

Dear friends,

Heartily grateful for your generosity, Teach For Taiwan (TFT) is very glad to present the progress we’ve achieved in our project “Teach For Taiwan COVID-19 Response.” Due to the Covid-19, schools have been suggested to apply distance learning. Nevertheless, children in our partner schools cannot afford the proper devices for on-line e-learning, which is resulted from the meager incomes of their families. Thus, TFT launches this program and all the donations would be applied to purchase tablets and distribute to our “partner schools.” With your support, We’ve successfully fundraised 4,404 US dollars in total and purchased 25 tablets at a discounted price. By delivering tablets to three elementary schools in Pingtung (90 children), Hualien (20), and Yunlin (22), we‘ve helped over 130 children in rural areas use the tablets to learn and keep offering them high-quality education during COVID-19.

About Teach For Taiwan

In Taiwan, The education crisis in Taiwan is a gap in opportunity and achievement between students from high and low socioeconomic backgrounds. According to OECD, this gap is one of the widest in the world. Founded in 2013, Teach For Taiwan (TFT) has dedicated itself to bridging the gap of educational inequality in Taiwan. We recruit high-potential, mission-driven individuals to commit to a full-time teaching fellowship in educationally disadvantaged primary schools for two years. Teaching fellows are equipped with professional training and a comprehensive support system to develop. their teaching and leadership skills. After the 2-year fellowship, TFT supports alumni to continue to drive collective long-term change for educational equity. TFT sent more than 200 TFT fellows to 60 schools to support more than 5000 kids.  TFT envisions that “one day, all children in Taiwan, regardless of their background, can attain excellent education and the opportunities of self-development.”

We appreciate your charity which makes the learning process of the children we've long supported would not be disrupted.

Best regards,
Teach For Taiwan
