ELECTRONIC TEACHING AIDS FOR DISABLED CHILDREN (#21529)

Children with special needs require learning aids as much as normal children. These could be in the form of gadgets including musical toys, musical instruments, Ipads, laptops or even computers. We at Balajothi strongly believe that even an intellectually challenged child can experience, in a small way, the joy of living by being taught through such gadgets.
Taking forward the personal experience of such a child, born in the family of one of the Trustees, and seeing the happiness exhibited by the 100 % disabled child while using an Ipad, we decided to go ahead and share the experiences of similarly disabled children using such learning aids. The results were amazingly encouraging and today all our children with special needs use an electronic learning aid which, apart from keeping them happy, also ended up in teaching them several things. For example, by putting a special needs child before a desk top the child was able to learn the basics of computer operations such as booting the system, opening files, typing and erasing contents, drawing and painting etc with great enthusiasm. As a bonus the child was also able to learn several other things associated with the body and its parts, nature, food, etc. Although many of the children were nonverbal, the computer opened up a world of exciting things to learn and the best part was they were able to control and direct their activities in that world. What a wonderful way of learning !!

From these funds we were able to buy two computers. We hope to buy more teaching aids in the near future, with your donations and support.
