GLOBALGIVING PROGRESS REPORT

DUE ON MARCH 13, 2017

Project title : Electronic teaching aids for disabled children (#21529)

Harish (name changed) is a differently abled boy, 17 years of age, who is a profound level intellectually challenged.  Additionaly, he is an ASD syndrome child.  He is the only child of consangnious parents.  Coming from an underprivileged family he is a motherless child and is being taken care of by his  grandparents. His father drives a cab when he is able to.  He is certified medically 100 % disabled and needs care and support all his life.  Harish was one of the special children who joined Balajothi Centre for rehabilitation and training when it was started in 2004.  His chances of survival were very slim. His joining Balajothi was the turning point in his life.

Harish today is out of the wheel chair and is able to walk short distances without support.  His exposure for fifteen years has enhanced his overall progress.  He is unable to speak but has emerged as an outstanding child in working on computers and the I-pad.  He is able to download games, music, and a whole world of interesting things which other boys of his disabilities dare not even dream of achieving.  His love for music and numbers has made him an outstanding performer at public events.

Balajothi takes great pride in nurturing this very special physically and intellectually child as a role model to many families struggling with the challenging issue of bringing up a disabled child in the midst of the present hectic life style which is the hall mark of the modern world.

We at Balajothi are immensely grateful to the GlobalGiving platform for channelizing help and support from warm hearted and generous well wishers such as you, from around the world.  You have been a great source of strength in motivating our efforts in significantly changing lives of the disadvantaged differently abled children in Bangalore. Your contribution has brought immense happiness and sense of achievement in their young lives.  Our grateful thanks to you for this.

To date we have received an amount of US $ 182/- towards this project. We now have two I-Pads and 12 key boards.  We plan to buy a bigger key board and more number of I-pads which will add more fun to learning. We need the remaining amount of US $ 1818/- to buy more such teaching aids and with your continuing support we are confident of achieving this in a short time.

Balajothi Centre for the Disabled acts as a catalyst to recognize hidden talents of differently abled children, enabling them to develop and use these talents to grow and lead independent and abundant lives, to the extent possible. Every parent who has entered the gates of Balajothi is now comforted with the thought that there is ‘hope’ for his dear child in this challenging world. Harish is  yet another inspiration to special children and a living example of this ‘hope’ !!!
