This project will provide physically challenged women in Ghana with Digital skills to help them gain employment. It will also foster gender equality, promote financial independence for these disabled women while creating a community of women who are interested in using technology to revolutionize Africa and beyond. The women will be taken through various computer skills like sending an email, learning the use of the Microsoft office products like excel, word, web development and robotics
The recent research by the association of the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE) pointed out that "girls and young women are underrepresented in technology-related education and employment.'' This is particularly true for girls and women with disabilities. The resulting digital divide is a serious problem. This challenge when not dealt with will further widen the digital gender divide and prevent the effective inclusion of women with disabilities in the tech industry.
This project would help solve the problem by providing the digital skills needed for the effective inclusion of women with disabilities in the tech industry. It will include providing digital skills training such as sending emails, using Microsoft office products like word and excel, web development, robotics, video, and audio editing, blogging, and also providing mentorship, job placement, and incubation which are all key instruments in bridging the digital gender divide.
By this project, we are looking to promote inclusion of women with disabilities through technology and also building the confidence of these women in the society at large. The aim is not only to train the women and assimilate them into the job market but to also build a community of young African women supportive of each other and assisting each other grow personally and professionally.
