Our goal is to give the Nigerian youth an opportunity for a better future. Our focus for this project is on the underprivileged youth, those who due to poverty or some other reason, do not have access to formal education beyond high school. Our Tech Academy not only trains young people in the ever-changing field of tech, but also teaches them basic workplace skills and provides the opportunity for internship, work placement, and follow-up.
Unemployment in Nigeria for these age groups, 15-34 years, which represents the youth population in Nigeria have a combined unemployment and underemployment rate of 55.4% or 24.5 million (13.1 million unemployed and another 11.3 million underemployed). There are a variety of factors, such as poverty, poor infrastructure, educational discrimination and lack of opportunities that stop bright youths from continuing their education. This project aims to provide solutions for these problems.
TWYI Tech Academy will not only focus on training youths in tech skills, but also provide transport to get them to the training centre, food to eat at the centre and all the resources (electricity, internet, computer systems) they need to do have a successful training. After the training, we aim to put them on an internship program to get them into the workforce and make a difference in the lives.
The project will help provide participants with an opportunity they may not have easily had access to on their own, and with future job prospects, they can have a chance to provide a better life for themselves and their family.
