Dear Valued Partners,

With great enthusiasm, we present our first-quarter report for the year 2024, showcasing the remarkable progress and achievements our organization has made thus far. Your unwavering partnership and support have been instrumental in propelling us forward, and we are immensely grateful for your contributions. This report highlights our achievements and serves as a testament to our commitment.

As we look ahead, we are filled with excitement for the opportunities that await. With your continued partnership, we are confident in reaching new heights and making a lasting impact.

Please read below to see our progress so far:

W.TEC Academy January – April Report (2023/2024 Academic Session 2nd Term)

 Lagos State

  • Training: 222 girls were trained in scratch programming, video game design, mobile app development, and video editing across 10 schools.
  • Expansion: Partnership with Cummins West Africa introduced a new curriculum on solar power technologies, with 33 girls enrolled and trained.

 Kwara State and Ondo State

  • Kwara State: The academic session graduated a total of 800 students, and 304 students were trained this term in scratch programming, web, and graphic design.
  • Ondo State: 170 girls were trained across 5 schools for this academic session on hands on training and scratch programming.

 Special Events and Collaborations

  • International Day of Girls and Women in Science: A one-day event science quiz event focused on the importance of more girls and women in the science field, held in partnership with Lafarge.
  • Training and review meetings for STEM Instructors were conducted in Kwara, Lagos, and Ondo states.
  • International Women's Day event held in Kwara Academy with 107 female students, featuring an educational & mentorship session and a hands-on practical session on constructing robotic hands.
  • Another International Women's Day event was held in Lagos Academy with a career talk.

 Impact and Success

  • 71-90% of 304 girls in the Kwara Academy demonstrated an increased competency rate in "STEM related topics" after the academic term.
  • Over 75% of girls in the Kwara Academy for this academic term showed an increased interest in pursuing STEM careers.
  • 51-75% of girls improved their communication skills over the class duration.
  • 75% of STEM instructors engaged the girls in active learning during classes
  • 65% of the academic girls became more critical thinkers and employed more problem-solving skills during this academic term.
  • A new curriculum on AI and machine learning was introduced to STEM Instructors to better integrate a great learning process with the girls.
  • Three alumni were recruited as STEM instructors at Kwara Academy.
