Summary

Many girls in urban slums and rural communities lack access to technology education. With over 60% of girls dropping out before senior secondary school, and limited career awareness, this project will set up afterschool technology clubs to teach basic computing, coding, and digital skills. These clubs will guide girls who aspire to work in healthcare fields such as nursing and public health by equipping them with computer-based knowledge that aligns with the growing demand for health informatics

Challenge

Girls in slums and under-resourced areas often lack access to computers and digital learning. Many end up idle after school, exposed to peer pressure, street activity, or early marriage. This lack of structured learning and digital exposure reduces their chances of building careers, especially in sectors like healthcare, which increasingly depend on digital tools. Most of these girls want to be health workers, but they do not have access to tech education that can support this dream.

Solution

We will start by setting up afterschool clubs in two communities, where young girls will learn basic digital skills such as word processing, data entry, health information recording, and coding. Each club will operate in a safe location three days a week after school. The program will introduce girls to the digital aspects of healthcare and other fields while keeping them engaged in structured learning. Female instructors will lead the sessions using laptops, power backup, and clear lesson guide.

Long-Term Impact

Girls who complete this program will be better prepared for careers in nursing, health records, data science, and other in-demand fields. The skills they gain can help them do better in school, apply for computer-based jobs, and stay engaged after school hours. This will lower their chances of dropping out due to early pregnancy or child marriage. In the long run, more girls from these communities can enter the technology sector and reduce the gender gap in the industry.
