The program will achieve access to quality education by ensuring return and retention of 200 teenage mothers in school within Homa bay county. According to the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 14% of girls aged 15 to 19 have given birth; Sadly, 98% of girls who have ever been pregnant are out of school. 59% of pregnancies among girls aged 15-19 years are unintended. The donation will support 90 to 100 percent of 200 teenage mothers education needs.
Homa Bay has the second highest levels of teenage childbearing in Kenya at 33% and is characterized by high unintended teenage pregnancy and female school drop-out rates. The primary school completion rate for girls is only 54%. less than 40% of the teenage girls return to school of with two 2/3 comes from stable income families. All teenage mothers, regardless of their age or social status experience individual and social challenges.This project will affect the life of 200 teenage mothers.
Provision of basic education requirements: school fees subsidy for 100 teenagers in secondary school, and 20 for those in vocational institution. The project will also provide books,pens,shoes, school uniforms, reading solar lamp and termly psycho social support for 200 teenage mothers.
Enabling teenage mothers to access quality education and be able to build their carrier hence reduction in poverty level. Promoting diversity and inclusion of the target group within the education learning institutions and supporting the realization of SDG 4 and 5 on quality education and gender equality. The project will also have impact in the realization of return to school policy of Kenya.
