Since April 2014 the girls in our Care Centers Malen had been rehearsing a play about the Rights of Children. This project, “SuperArte”, had won a scholarship of Mecenazgo Cultural. The play develops through little dynamic scenes which reflect the girls’ point of view of their rights in a simple and fun way. The cast was formed by three teachers who carried out the process of the play and the girls, who’s rights have had been violated.
After months of work, finally the big day of performance had come. In the Culture Center ‘Carlos Gardel’ everyone got ready to play. The girls were a little nervous to act in front of a big audience.
Behind the scenes they got dressed and painted all bright and colorful. Soon the play began, with an impressive belly dance. In the following eight scenes the girls showed their impression of their rights, such as The Rights to Education, No Abuse, or Having a Family. You could see various animals, Snow White and the dwarfs, superheroes, pirates and gauchos and more. Phillip, another volunteer from Germany and I participated in some scenes, too.
Between the scenes, videos of volunteers, famous actors, the staff and friends of Mensajeros de la Paz talking about children’s rights were presented on a big screen. The play ended with a representation of The Lions’ King. The following applause showed the audience’ enthusiasm for what they had seen.
For me too, it was a great experience to act with the girls, too see they develop in the process and to notice how happy they were about the result in the end. I think the project “SuperArte” is all a success, not only during the performance but yet in the practices before.
