Temporary Home for Children in Argentina

Dear friends, 

A new school year has officially begun in Argentina, and we are happy to share that the children at Casa de Abrigo Veo Veo have returned to school this March, starting their 2026 academic year, which will continue until mid-December. 

After previously sharing our Back-to-School campaign with you, today we would like to take this opportunity to introduce Mrs. Graciela Gilona, who leads our Casa de Abrigo — the name given in Argentina to specialized temporary homes for children and adolescents in vulnerable situations. 

Graciela explains that Casa de Abrigo Veo Veo is a specialized care home for children between the ages of 6 and 12 who are going through highly complex situations. These are cases in which the State intervenes due to serious risks affecting the children’s physical, psychological, social, and community well-being. 

At the Home, the work focuses on providing close and constant support to each child, strengthening emotional bonds, rebuilding trust, and opening new possibilities for their future. Every day, our team works with the conviction that every childhood deserves care, presence, protection, and real opportunities to grow in a healthy environment. 

For many of the children who arrive at Casa de Abrigo Veo Veo, returning to school is much more than going back to the classroom. It represents stability, routine, learning, and the possibility of imagining a different future. Education becomes a key tool in rebuilding confidence and helping children reconnect with their dreams and potential. 

At Mensajeros de la Paz Argentina, we continue to believe deeply in the importance of sustaining and strengthening spaces like this one — spaces where children can heal, feel safe, and grow surrounded by care and respect for their rights.

As the year comes to an end, we would like to share a meaningful holiday update from Casa de Abrigo Veo Veo, our temporary home for children in Argentina who are going through one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. 

During the holiday season, the children—together with the caregivers and professionals who accompany them every day—decorated and put together a Christmas tree. This simple but powerful moment allowed them to experience the joy, excitement, and warmth that the end-of-year celebrations can bring. For many of these children, living Christmas in a calm, caring, and secure environment is something entirely new. 

Due to legal reasons and in order to protect their identity, we cannot share photos of the children’s faces. However, we want you to know that behind every decoration placed on the tree were smiles, laughter, and genuine happiness. What truly matters is not what can be shown in an image, but what can be felt: children celebrating the holidays in peace, surrounded by adults who care for them and ensure their safety. 

Since 2005, Mensajeros de la Paz has provided this temporary home in Buenos Aires for children between the ages of 6 and 12 who have been legally removed from their families to protect their rights. At Casa de Abrigo Veo Veo, children receive psychological, medical, and emotional support as they begin a healing process after growing up in unstable and unsafe environments. Our goal is to make this transitory stage a time of care, dignity, and emotional recovery—until a safe family environment can be secured for each child. 

As we move into the new year, we are also facing the reality of summer in Buenos Aires, with very high temperatures already setting in. To help the children cope with the heat and enjoy healthy moments of play and recreation, we hope to purchase a portable outdoor pool (Pelopincho-style) for the Home. 

This is why we are reaching out to you today. Your small but meaningful donation can help us provide relief from the heat and create joyful summer memories in a safe and supervised environment. Something as simple as water play can make a big difference in the daily lives of children who have already endured so much.
