Temporary Home for Children in Argentina

The temporary home for vulnerable children called Colibríes is one of the few institutions in the province of Buenos Aires that continued working with a technical level. The result was that 7 boys and girls were restituted to their families. Besides, our technical team set up a protocol adapted to virtual spaces, which was presented and had a great receptivity of state entities. This makes Colibríes the only establishment in the province carrying out a linkage with potential new adoptive families in pandemic times.

The safety measures were also strengthened to protect both residents and workers. We organized talks between the children and adults in charge of their care. Furthermore, a crisis committee was formed and a telephone line for communication was enabled. The purpose was to control the entry of adults that were not the personnel required for taking care of children, among other measures.

Throughout these months, we keep doing recreational and artistic activities virtually. To achieve this we built a space full of computers for children. This place guarantees access to education and socialization. Besides, there is a permanent support to referents and adoptive families in a virtual form. Finally, we remain celebrating birthdays, as well as other activities.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina, Mensajeros de la Paz is working in a transversal and integral way based on its 4 programmatic topics. These are related to different regulations made by the authorities, in line with the OMS recommendations.
