The main troubles faced by disaster relief efforts is bolstering support after immediate issues are alleviated. That is why this GlobalGiving fund exists! To make sure that relief efforts extend to be sustainable and lasting! The need in Thailand arose after a particularly bad rainy season in 2011. Our partners at Foundation for Life are dedicated to not only supplying relief efforts after a disaster but also extending resources to make people self-sufficient. In their most recent report they emphasize the need for funds and more importantly the need for education.
In the Bangkok Childrens Hospital Foundation for life distributed blankets and gave kids toys during the holiday seasons! These simple gestures help so much with moral and is a great way to help people grow and move forward. Involvement in the childrens hospital is only one way that Foundation for Life bolsters growth and encourages sustainability. In the hilltribes of Thailand, people living in the Samerng Forest were lucky to get some hands on training from the Foundation.
Typically, in this particular area, Foundation for Life would typically donate winter caps to thwart the winter cold. This year, instead, they offered training sessions on how to craft the caps themselves. The response was outrageously positive and the Foundation launched a three-day intensive knitting class for local communities. The needles and yarn were donated by Foundation for life! One particular learner, named Chako had this to say about her experience, “Thank you, Foundation for Life, for teaching me how to knit. I can now put this new skill to good use!” Chako intends to use her new skills to earn a little extra income to help with the expense of her ailing grandfather!
Foundation for Life works to create sustainable and self-sufficient populace after a disaster situation. This effort creates community members not focused on outside resources but instead focused on how they can sustain their future independently. With added skillsets and learning, community members ensure their survival when the next disaster or flood inevitably hits. Thank you, from GlobalGiving for investing in a sustainable future for Thai communities and a sustainable future for us all!

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
