The Hope Exchange plans to establish a social enterprise in the form of a coffee shop. This initiative will provide our homeless clients with barista training and meaningful employment.
When asked what they want the most, the majority of homeless people wish for access to skills training and job opportunities. They want to be able to help themselves to a better life.
The coffee culture in Cape Town is big and keeps growing. If The Hope Exchange can establish a social enterprise in the form of a coffee shop on our premises, we can create a place for barista training, internship and employment. Job experience and a barista certificate will open the doors to a whole big industry. In our pilot project, we had 18 people in training and 11 found jobs immediately after graduation.
Providing homeless people with skills will empower them to enter the job market and get them off the street.
