Saying goodbye to our ambassadors is always hard. On the last Monday of the year we had to say goodbye to Pumpkin, the Virginia Opossum. Pumpkin joined our team in 2023, after she was deemed unreleasable by a rehabilitation center.
Since then Pumpkin has been such a well loved ambassador. She traveled to schools and groups all over the triangle to educate thousands about the amazing Virginia Opossum. She has shown so many that her species is not a pest but an important part of our environment whom we can coexist with. Pumpkin had such a large personality for a little opossum, at Piedmont Wildlife Center we often found her running on her wheel, exploring outside or excitedly awaiting her next snack or meal.
We thank Pumpkin for all of the work she has done to promote conservation and are thankful for our time with her.
