The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, and our mission is to end hunger here across Eastern Massachusetts. With your support, we can provide nutritious meals to over 400,000 children, adults and families - increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and helping to ensure the continued health of our community.
One in ten residents in eastern Massachusetts do not know where their next meal will come from; for children, that number is one in four. About a third of the population we serve is children under 18 years old, a group which is especially vulnerable to hunger while being largely dependent on proper nutrition to thrive. Without adequate access to balanced meals, including fresh produce and lean protein, children cannot develop to their fullest potential - emotionally, mentally, or physically.
Last year, GBFB distributed over 60 million pounds of healthy food to our network of 530 member agencies across Eastern Massachusetts, including food pantries, after-school programs, homeless shelters, and through our four direct-service programs. GBFB maximizes the impact of our food distribution by providing reliable access to high-quality, nutritious, food to the organizations deeply involved in their respective communities.
With the valued support of our community partners, GBFB continues to expand our food distribution, increasing access to fresh produce and strategically growing to provide at least one meal a day for every person in need. By facilitating healthful nutrition of our most vulnerable populations now, GBFB works to address the acute needs of hungry children and families, and to create healthier communities for the future.
