1. Project Overview
The AFAWI Livelihood Project continues to empower women through access to low-interest loans and tailored business training. By targeting female entrepreneurs in low-income communities, the project strengthens women’s economic participation, promotes gender equality, and drives sustainable community development.
Building on the strong foundation laid in the first quarter of 2025, the project has expanded its reach, with new beneficiaries identified and upcoming loan disbursements planned in Afienya.
2. Updates Since the Last Report2.1 Expansion of Beneficiaries
Following the initial identification of 42 women during Quarter 1, an additional 39 women have now been included, bringing the total number of prospective beneficiaries to 81 women. This expansion reflects both the strong demand for the program and the commitment of AFAWI to respond to the evolving needs of women entrepreneurs in peri-urban communities.
2.2 Upcoming Loan Disbursements – Afienya
Preparations are underway for loan disbursements in Afienya, where approximately 45 women are expected to receive financial support in the coming weeks. Each loan will be paired with tailored business training to ensure responsible utilization and long-term sustainability.
The selection process emphasizes inclusivity, focusing on women operating in the informal sector who show clear commitment to growing their businesses.
3. Next Steps
Business Training Sessions: Prior to loan disbursement, beneficiaries will receive training in budgeting, record-keeping, marketing, and financial management.
Loan Disbursement in Afienya: Close to 45 women will receive loans to strengthen their enterprises and improve household income security.
Continued Monitoring: AFAWI will conduct regular follow-ups to assess repayment progress, business growth, and the overall impact on beneficiaries’ livelihoods.
Scaling Efforts: With growing demand, AFAWI is exploring partnerships and resource mobilization opportunities to extend the Livelihood Project to additional communities.
4. Conclusion
The second quarter of 2025 marks a significant phase of growth for the Livelihood Project, with the beneficiary base expanding from 42 to 81 women and the next round of loan disbursements scheduled in Afienya.
Through its dual approach of financial support and capacity building, the project continues to address critical barriers faced by women in accessing credit, while equipping them with the skills needed for sustainable enterprise development.
