The purpose of the project is to eliminate hunger, poverty, diseases ,illiteracy, from the community where it is being implemented. It also serves as demonstration for neighboring communities on promotion of plant food against animal food and using natural fertilizers to get good quality food safe for human consumption as well as protect the environment.
The Nyabikoni Women Vegetable growing project is composed of 40 women in Kabale Municipality,Uganda who came together to solve the problem of food shortage by growing vegetables and other seed plants to feed their families with the intention to boost nutrition to their children and also make income from selling the harvested seeds. The project is also to serve as a way of promoting plant food eating against animal food,so as to let the animals live.
The project will help the women and their families get enough seeds for food and extra for selling so as to buy other types of foods, help the families raise fees for their school going children and pay for other basic needs. The women also promote use of organic fertilizers such as farmyard and compost manure and not artificial manure which affect the environment and the seeds that are to be consumed.
The community will no longer have food shortage once they are taught how to utilize their pieces of land by growing the seed crops once they are given the funding. The children will be able to keep in school up to tertiary level of education where they will have got skills and profession that can help them serve their communities and elsewhere. Also disease related to food shortage especially in the young such as kwashiorkor and marasmus will be eliminated from this community.
