First Report for The Raptor Sanctuary @ Belize Bird Rescue

Welcome to our very first update for TRS@BBR – The Raptor Sanctuary at Belize Bird Rescue. While we’re still in the early stages of this ambitious and long-term project, we’re excited to report that we’re off to a promising start.

Currently, we have two raptors in rehabilitation at BBR that we plan to transfer to the new sanctuary enclosures once construction is underway. We’re also caring for a stygian owl who is missing five primary feathers on one wing. He cannot be released until those feathers grow back—a process that, depending on his molt cycle, could take up to two more years.

His case has reinforced the need for specialized, long-term sanctuary enclosures—spaces that meet a higher standard of care for both permanent residents and raptors requiring extended rehabilitation.

At present, our available funds are still short of what’s needed to begin construction. However, we are committed to ramping up our fundraising efforts in the third quarter of 2025 to get this essential project off the ground.

Your generous support has already made a real difference, and we are deeply grateful. Please consider helping us expand our reach by sharing this report, our fundraising page, and our social media platforms with your network.

Thank you again—we can’t wait to bring you more good news in the months ahead!

With gratitude,
The TRS@BBR Team
