We believe in animal welfare and conscious sanctuary stewardship for non-releasable birds of prey in Belize. With an animal-first mindset, we will provide true sanctuary for non-releasable birds of prey, free from the stress of handling, display, or performance, while passionately inspiring conservation through remote observation and wildlife advocacy.
True sanctuary is safety and freedom from fear, harm, disturbance or stress. Not every rehabilitated raptor is suitable for release or public display, and the alternative for raptors unsuitable for those roles is compassionate euthanasia. We believe environmental education can be expanded through technology while still prioritizing animal agency, preserving captive wildlife welfare rights with a life of refuge and dignity.
Your support will help build spacious, naturally immersive enclosures for current and future raptor sanctuary cases. It will also fund the creation of an exciting approach to conservation efforts though remotely accessible educational packages made freely available to Belizean schools. This effective education strategy is in accordance with Belize wildlife law which prohibits wildlife shows and the coerced handling of live birds in tours or entertainment.
Advocating for true sanctuary care as an ethical imperative and tracking success with educational outreach has the potential to rally local and global awareness of wildlife conservation. The Raptor Sanctuary at Belize Bird Rescue will lead the way in offering sanctuary without obligating raptors to perform for the general public, while establishing new ways to admire & be inspired by wildlife through remote observation.
