Creativity and innovation are at the core of creating sustainable and long-term impact. Since 2020 this fund has featured the innovative approaches of BBS supported projects and today we highlight our goal for 200 youth to participate in the Photo Start programs. Their innovative photography curriculum integrates visual storytelling with digital literacy using applied learning to equip students with much needed skills so no one is left behind in today's digital world.
Technology is transforming the global economy. A 2023 IFC (World Bank divison) report states "65% of children entering primary school today will end up working in a job that doesn't yet exist". But have our education systems kept pace? In 2020, UNICEF urged "supporting meaningful learning outcomes, through accredited, flexible learning and non-formal education opportunities." This project ensures 200 youth participate in a program that builds skills and confidence for their future paths.
Photo Start's curriculum integrates visual storytelling with digital literacy using applied learning to equip students with needed skills to thrive as learners and workers in our technology driven world. They prepare students for success in all aspects of their lives because the program includes visual literacy skills, entrepreneurial skills plus interpersonal development by promoting communication skills, collaboration, problem-solving, and empathy.
The 2022 pre and post-course surveys of students showed a significant impact on educational, technical, and emotional/life skills development. The collected qualitative data comprises youth from different parts of the world and with different backgrounds: 52% increase in digital literacy, 66% increase in student capabilities of self-awareness, social awareness, and leadership, 34% increase in the understanding of storytelling and content creation, and 54% increase in entrepreneurial skills.
