Before escaping in 1959, Rinchen Dharlo lived in a small town in southwestern Tibet with his family. When the Tibetan government was abolished, he fled, eventually working for the Tibetan government-in-exile in Nepal. He represented the Dalai Lama in Nepal, and in 1986 was transferred to the United States, where he served as the Dalai Lama's representative to the Americas. He is deeply involved with the Tibetan people, helping to resettle over 1000 refugees in the United States. He continues to devote his life to Tibet and the Dalai Lama.
Along with his unique life story, we are recording other Tibetans in the United States telling their stories of escape, exile, and building a new life in a new country while staying connected to Tibet.
