The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters announced that 15,420ha of forest damage is estimated by 6 p.m. on the 6th due to forest fires on the east coast. This is the size of about 53 Yeouido areas (290, inner area of Yunjung-ro embankment). In terms of the area (0.71414) of the soccer field, it is 21,597 times more. Forest damage such as 12,695ha in Uljin, 656ha in Samcheok, 1,825ha in Gangneung, 169ha in the East Sea, and This forest fire is the biggest damage in 22 years.
463 facilities, including 388 in Uljin, 12 in Gangneung, and 63 in the East Sea, were lost. 261 and 62 houses were destroyed in Uljin and Donghae, respectively. 7,330 people in 4,635 households are being evacuated due to the forest fire. 6,497 people from 4,150 households in Uljin and Samcheok, and 688 people from 362 households in the East Sea are being evacuated. The affected area is so wide and the wind is severe in dry weather that it is still difficult to extinguish.
Wildfires are not easily caught. It still takes a lot of time to put out the fire. Firefighters are still doing their best on the spot, but the environment is too poor. Since dustproof masks are also insufficient, they are being put into extinguishing work while exposed to smoke due to wearing regular masks. APAD Korea will provide Dustproof masks, groceries, and stoves so that emergency relief work can be put into better conditions.
After the forest fire is completely extinguished, emergency relief support for victims will be provided in earnest. About 4,000 houses were damaged by forest fires, and 8,000 people were displaced.
