Summary

As part of our Audience Project, Arts for All will tour PigPen Theatre Company's "The Mountain Song" FREE OF CHARGE to over 2,500 in-need children in the greater New York City area. Back-to-Back 2010 and 2011 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award winners, PigPen Theatre Company is an ensemble of seven young artists out of Carnegie Mellon who create atmospheric theatrical fables with their own unique blend of live music, puppetry, shadow play, choreographed movement, and clever lighting effects.

Challenge

NYC is an exciting city full of so many artistic opportunities. At every corner there is another show to see, or another museum to explore. One would expect that no child would be without art in this vast city. However, with art being cut from schools, unfortunately, many of the children Arts for All serves have little to no opportunities to explore the arts. Often when our artists ask a group of the children we serve, "How many of you have seen a play," the majority do not raise their hands.

Solution

Arts for All is touring PigPen Theatre Company's "The Mountain Song" to over 2,500 children FREE OF CHARGE. We are taking the production directly to in-need schools, so children will not have any issues finding transportation or funds to see an amazing professional show. By partnering with PigPen Theatre Company, Arts for All will give the children we serve the opportunity to see a professional group of young artists, out of Carnegie Mellon University, provide a unique, theatrical experience!

Long-Term Impact

"The Mountain Song" was the runaway hit of this year's FringeNYC, earning critical praise from Time Out New York, Backstage, and The New York Times. We work to teach children to become better audiences, and learn that they too can create their own art. By exposing children to shows such as the "The Mountain Song" we hope they will be inspired to find their own artist within. Children will also be given study guides from Arts for All so that they can continue the experience after the show.
