Parents of LGBTQ Children - Therapy Support Groups

Thanks to your support, Mama Dragons has seen tremendous growth in our Parents of LGBTQ+ Children Therapy Groups—and with that growth, a clear message has emerged: families need more local, in-person connection than ever before. While our online spaces provide critical safety, community, and counseling support, we are increasingly hearing from mothers who want to continue that connection face-to-face in their own regions.

In response, Mama Dragons is expanding beyond our virtual network and working to form in-person support groups and regional gatherings in communities where parents are feeling the greatest pressure, isolation, and fear—especially families raising transgender youth amid hostile legislation and rhetoric. Building on the strength of our online community, we have launched plans for in-person retreats across the country, creating spaces where mothers can breathe, learn, and support one another with the depth and warmth that only happens when people are physically together.

These retreats and local support circles will help parents build stronger networks, deepen resilience, and return to their communities better equipped to advocate for their children and for themselves.

At Mama Dragons, we know that when a parent is supported, educated, and emotionally grounded, the entire family benefits—especially LGBTQ+ youth. That’s why we created LIFT (Listening, Insight, Family Transformation), our professionally facilitated therapy group designed specifically for mothers of LGBTQ+ children navigating fear, grief, transition, or isolation.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, LIFT has provided accessible, trauma-informed therapy for parents who otherwise may not have had the support they needed. Many of our participants come from communities where affirming therapy is not available or culturally accepted. LIFT bridges that gap.

Program Highlights:

• Small-group sessions for connection, reflection, and healing

• In 2025, our LIFT sessions have been FREE to Mama Dragons member —made possible by donor support
