Ramani's success story

By Mary Storrie | Founder RMF

Ramani a women tuk-tuk driver, hails from humble beginnings in the eastern province. Ramani aspired to improve their financial and social status, starting with a small business delivering fresh milk on a two-wheeler.

Ramani became one of the first women to be trained as a Pink tuk-tuk driver, introducing the Think Pink concept (women driving for women and children) to Colombo through RM Foundation Lanka. She obtained her license when her youngest son was just six months old, training under the Project Hope banner in 2019.

Ramani's favorite quote reflects her dedication: "I have no daughters, but if I had, I would not hesitate to send my daughter to school with a woman driver. So I want to make sure that a parent of a girl child will be at ease because I will treat them as my daughters."

She worked hard to find clients for school and office hires while continuing her fresh milk deliveries, securing a healthy income through tuk-tuk driving. Ramani efficiently managed her time and finances, saving enough money to purchase a mini-van, which she now uses for school and office hires.

Becoming a tuk-tuk driver transformed Ramani's life, making her a confident woman and elevating her family's social status. She expresses deep gratitude to RM Foundation Lanka for the opportunity given to her and is committed to helping the project in any way she can. Ramani now serves as a motivational speaker, sharing her success story as a Pink Tuk driver to uplift other women and empower them to become successful entrepreneurs. The ultimate goal is to provide more women with similar opportunities to improve their living standards. #SuccessStory #Empowerment #ThinkPink #WomenEntrepreneurs
