An update on your donation to the Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund

By Sarah Rahman | Program Manager, Disaster Response

Thank you for your generous donation to the Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund. Since our last update, this fund was reopened to respond to the deeply concerning levels of hunger, displacement, and complexity of the conflict. Donations to this GlobalGiving fund have been making a difference, helping to meet the needs of people affected by one of the deadliest conflicts in the world in recent years.

Community-led nonprofit organizations have faced enormous challenges in providing services and accessing resources. Partners like Abraham’s Oasis have had to adjust to the realities of the situation, causing delays or changes in programming.

Since we last wrote, a peace agreement was signed, and access to the Tigray region has increased. Donations to the Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund recently supported two high-impact, community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis in Ethiopia.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Tiruzer Ethiopia for Africa (TEA) is launching emergency relief and rehabilitation programming in southwest Tigray. TEA’s life-saving work is intended to support children, women, and the elderly—including people who have lost their homes and possessions due to conflict.
  • Bridge for Development Organization aims to empower vulnerable girls who are displaced by conflict and who reside in camps. In particular, the organization will provide sanitary pads to girls affected by conflict in northern Ethiopia, with a focus on effective products that are culturally acceptable, user-friendly, and affordable.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund powers community-led responses, and it means people in deeply difficult circumstances get the critical resources they need to help their community rebuild after conflict. Your support remains a lifeline.

With gratitude,

Sarah + the GlobalGiving Team
